Beginning with her first visit to China in 1976, Penelope Prime has more than 30 years of experience studying and working within Chinese culture and the dynamic Chinese economy. After majoring in Chinese studies and studying Mandarin as an undergraduate, she earned a Ph.D. in economics at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Prime is professor of economics in the Stetson School of Economics & Business at Mercer University in Atlanta teaching international economics and business in the MBA and Executive programs. Dr. Prime’s research focuses on China’s economy and business environment, including topics such as China’s foreign trade and investment, industrial and technological progress, provincial development, and comparisons with India, as well as applied business and economics cases on China and Asia. Her articles have been published in Growth & Change, Applied Economics, Economic Development and Cultural Change, China Economic Review, Pacific Economic Review, Osaka Economic Papers, and Business Economics, among others. Her two most recent books are Global Giant: Is China Changing the Rules of the Game? and Taiwan’s Democracy: Economic and Political Challenges
Dr. Prime is engaged in speaking and consulting on China. She has worked with major companies such as International Paper, Alcon and Chubb Insurance on their China strategies and human resource training on China’s business culture and environment, and with smaller companies on their international business expansions into Asia.
