The SC Department of Commerce is addressing the significance of aerospace and aviation in the state by setting up a state-wide advisory task force and naming Charlie Farrell as its director. For more details click here. SC Commerce says that presently more than 180 Aerospace/Aviation firms are responsible for over 20,000 jobs in South Carolina.
This is a timely announcement as the Small Business Development Center is partnering with GSATC and Upstate SC Alliance to host a forum for the Aerospace and Aviation industry. The program, from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday May 1, will focus assisting businesses looking to grow through a better understanding of the opportunities, structure, and processes unique to the industry. Presenters from Lockheed Martin, ADEX Machining Technologies, Carbures, KTM Solutions, and GKN Aerospace will brief on projects, opportunities and best practices for suppliers, vendors and partners. The forum will partner with GSATC in hosting a special Learning Lunch at 11:30 AM, with a keynote provided by Steve Townes. Mr. Townes, President and CEO of Louis Berger Services, Inc., is also Founder of Ranger Aerospace, which has built multiple business in this industry. A panel of industry leaders will wrap up the program by addressing questions from participants.
